Event Recap: Shred & Sip with SWP – November 2014

Julian Makas, Founding Partner and Senior Security Services Engineer at ITEGRIATM, gave an eye-opening presentation on cyber-security and specific actions that should be taken to protect your information online.  Julian describes himself as a technophile – he craves tearing into new technologies not only to find out how they can be beneficial but also to see how they can be broken or manipulated in ways they were not meant to be.  With over 18 years of in-depth information systems exposure, Julian has firsthand experience on how drastically the evolution of technology has affected the world around us.

Julian’s presentation covered a number of topics including:

  • cyber-security myths and facts
  • anti-virus and firewall protection
  • password (or “pass-phrase”) best practices
  • password vaults
  • email attacks
  • two-factor authentication
  • encrypted web browsing

In addition to learning about cyber-security, guests were able to destroy sensitive documents via Opportunity Secure Data Destruction‘s (OSDD) mobile shred truck. Together we shredded over 1,000 lbs. of paper!

Yet despite the fact that people were still wearing masks and maintaining other COVID-related precautions a year + later, that day in March 2020 turned out to be a generational buying opportunity for stocks.
